Sometimes, you just have to trust your gut. When I first heard about BAAM, the Berlin Affordable Art Market, I knew it was the perfect fit for my work. But the timing seemed impossible — too much to juggle between work, childcare issues and a long drive across Germany. Plus, who knew if they’d even want me there?
Despite all the reasons to give up, I decided to go for it. After applying, I was thrilled to be invited to bring 10 pieces. I sorted time off, my daughter was of course excited for a weekend in Berlin ayway, and off we went. Yes, it meant the week before I had to sit in my car for a 7-hour drive to hang my paintings and another 6 hours back, but it was worth every mile.
BAAM was just as fantastic as I’d imagined—amazing artworks, queues of buyers at the doors, and a wonderful team. I sold nearly everything I brought and met some happy new collectors.
Driving home with my daughter asleep beside me, I knew why sometimes, silencing the doubts and trusting things will work out totally pays off.
A few months ago that’s exactly what I committed to myself, realising that I had reached a point where I felt I had sort of learned enough of what I wanted to learn to be able to express what I have to say.
It is still time for learning and developing my work, of course. But it is also the time to get it out into the world. Can’t wait for more of that in 2025!
And on that note a huge Thank you to everyone who has been purchasing my work over the last couple of months! It’s amazing to see the work flying out into the world: small pieces, bigger ones, by all means notebooks too! Very motivating having people cheering me on, means a hell of a lot and is such good fun!
